Guardianships – Emergency
Emergency guardians have similar responsibilities to long term guardians, but the guardianship has a time or situational limit.
What is an emergency guardianship?
Emergency guardians are designated individuals who make decisions for an incapacitated person on a temporary basis. If a person is temporarily incapacitated, due to illness or accident, for example, an emergency guardian is put in place to make decisions on behalf of the ward. These types of guardianships have a limiting factor and will not be in place indefinitely. Examples of limiting factors include a time limit, or recovery of the incapacitated person.
Setting up an Emergency Guardianship.
Guardianships can be created before any emergency type situation has unfolded. You can make your own preparations and have a guardian already designated while you are in good health, as a preparation for the unexpected. Guardianships can also be authorized once a person is already incapacitated. These types of guardianships are appointed by the court and Braggs Law Firm can help represent your interests in guardianship hearings for a loved one.
